January 6: CATC has a 2-hour delay, so there is no AM CATC today. Students who normally attend CATC may arrive for their first scheduled class, or if they choose to be at school will be placed in an academic support. Have a good day.

On Saturday, the Richmond High School wrestling team (co-op with Monmouth Academy and Winthrop) competed at Mt. Valley in the Franklin Savings Bank Tournament. The team finished 9th overall out of 30 teams, with two third-place finishes, and Braden McKenzie of Richmond earning a first-place victory.

This is an extremely competitive tournament, and our wrestlers represented our schools with pride. Please join us in congratulating them on their hard work and success. Go Bobcats!

Today, Science Survey and History of Food students travelled to Skowhegan to visit Maine Grains for a hands-on field trip exploring the journey from seed to loaf.

Students learned how this Maine-based company is “re-localizing grain production and milling” to strengthen our state’s agricultural economy and community health. During the visit, they toured the mill, observed the traditional stone-grinding process, and discussed how locally sourced grains can support sustainable land use and nutrient-rich foods.

The experience connected classroom lessons in science and history to real-world applications. Maine Grains’ mission of creating jobs, improving land use, and providing healthy food offered students an authentic example of how science and social studies apply to everyday life.

Thank you to high school teachers Charlie Urquhart (Social Studies) and Libby Ladner (Science) for arranging this opportunity for RHS students!

You may have noticed the massive blue & green BIOLAB trailer taking up a good chunk of the RMS parking lot this week and wondered what it was all about!

The Maine Mobile BIOLAB is part of Educate Maine’s effort to inspire future scientists by connecting students and teachers with real-world career paths in the life sciences. The mobile lab brings advanced scientific tools and hands-on experiments right to the school parking lot, giving students opportunities that go far beyond what most classrooms can offer.

During the visit, students took part in exciting investigations including “Where Did the Sugar Go?”, “Looking Into Lactase,” and the “Micropipette Challenge.”

A huge thank you to middle school science teacher Jennifer Thompson for making this incredible experience possible for our students!
