Retirees

Dear Marcia Buker Families,

I hope this finds you enjoying the weekend. I know many of you are celebrating a high school graduate. I congratulate the grads, their families, and the RMHS faculty. We loved having the seniors walk the halls of Marcia Buker last week, to say thank you to their former teachers, and to inspire our young scholars to one day earn their own Richmond High School cap and gown. Be sure to check out the footage of the walk at the end of the Bobcat Sightings video below!

The students of our elementary school are also reaching important milestones. The 5th graders took their last field trip, to the Portland Museum of Art, and they are preparing for their formal celebration ceremony; we enjoyed our last concert of the year; grades K, 1, and 2 expanded their annual nature-based field trip in a big way; and PreKers are getting ready for their next steps!

We have one full week and two days of school left, and there are still more "lasts" and fun to be had! This week, grades 2, 3, and 4 will go on their spring field trips; we will have the Bikes for Books drawing, and Field Day on Friday. Be sure to check the dates below for details.

I commend the Marcia Buker team not only for planning and organizing enriching experiences this spring and throughout the year but also for nurturing the curiosity and love of learning in our students that opens their minds to the world around them.

Parents, you should be proud that, more than once this spring, our teachers have been told that our students are the most well-behaved children of all groups at field trip sites. That is a tribute to the values and discipline you instill in your children.

As we bring this year to a close, we would like to express heartfelt gratitude to our our PTG and the larger community, who make all of the co-curricular activities we afford our students possible through your tireless fund raising, generous donations, and, of course, support of our annual budget.

Gratefully yours,

Mary

It Takes a Village

On May 23rd, a group of Marcia Buker students, led by Te Wood and Sue Cummings, gave a little bit back to the community by raising plants and seedlings for the Richmond Area Food Pantry's annual Plant and Bake Sale. On a windy, rainy day, Ms. Frederica drove the students to the pantry, where they delivered their plants with pride. We hope the plants give joy to those who purchased and took them home.

The competition is heating up! The PTG is sponsoring its second-annual coin fundraiser. This year, 12 staff members are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice -- a whipped cream pie in the face on Field Day! Students are excitedly watching the coin containers fill up and choosing where to put their money! Students may 'donate" coins to any staff member. And we have spare change at school for any student who needs some!
